Visibility: QASHQAI rugs and runners usually have geometric patterns. Geometric animal and bird drawings are common feature and are used both as part of the repeat patterns or as filler ornaments. Borders, particularly of QASHQAI rugs and carpets, include many highly developed floral designs. As in many other nomad rugs, multiple borders are a sign of later weavings.

Quality: QASHQAI rugs and runners varies. The older QASHQAI rugs and runners (around 1950) are very good, but some of the newer ones are not as good as old ones. Some of the newer QASHQAI rugs and runners are chemically dyed instead of vegetable dyed.

Size & Shapes: The QASHQAI rugs and runners have different sizes and the majority of them are mid size (4x6 to 8x10 feet).


Color: The dyes in QASHQAI rugs and runners are derived from natural sources, including madder red, indigo blue, the classic gold/yellow hue. This case is valid for all the old one (around 1950) , the newer one is hard to find the one that still using vegtable dye.

Texture: Soft wool, thin, tight piles.

Foundation: Warps are mostly cotton,wefts either cotton or wool.

Knots: Inspection of the back of the carpet is important because the weavers in QASHQAI tribe are using flat weaves.

Price: QASHQAI rugs and runner always have high demand. Prepare yourself to pay - Per Square Feet (PSF) for a very prized and beautiful carpet from QASHQAI tribe.
